Marvin Van Vuuren

June 10, 1934 — January 23, 2022

Marvin Van Vuuren, age 87 of Sioux Center, IA, died on Sunday January 23, 2022, at his Sioux Center Residence.    

A funeral service will take place 2:00 PM, Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg, officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

    Marvin T. Van Vuuren was born on June 10, 1934 to Herbert and Kenno (Bultsma) Van Vuuren in Platte, South Dakota. He grew up in Platte and attended Platte High School. On July 18, 1958 Marvin was united in marriage to Audrey J. Modderman in Renville, Minnesota. They lived in Washington state while Marvin was in the Army, stationed at Fort Lewis. They lived in Renville, Shakopee, and New Brighton, Minnesota, before moving to Sioux Center, Iowa in 1976 where they settled and raised their family.

     Marvin was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He was a carpenter and home builder his entire life. Obtaining his pilot’s license was one of his proudest accomplishments. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with Mark and his son Mason in the Platte area, attending musical events of his daughter Lisa and her children, camping, and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

    Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Audrey; children, Roshelle Faber of Anderson, IN, Mark (Cheryl) Van Vuuren of Sioux Falls, SD, Scott Van Vuuren of Sioux Center, IA, and Lisa (Bradley) Miedema of Sioux Center, IA; six grandchildren, Kandy, Randi, Mason, Brendan, Brianna, and Gabrielle; 2 great grandchildren, Leah and Tyler; sisters, Rena Hassler of Kalamazoo, MI and Gladys Fehr of Platte, SD; along with other extended family and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Kenno; and brother, Arie Van Vuuren.
