Merle De Boer, age 77, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, October 16, 2020, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center with Rev. Wayne Sneller officiating. Due to weather: the graveside service is being recorded and will be available at 2PM on MFHonline.com Sorry for any inconvenience.
Visitation without the family present will be held from 4-7PM on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
The family requests no flower. Donations may be made out the Jordan Raih Leukemia Fund or Sioux Center Ridge Youth Golf Program.
Merle Dean De Boer was born August 23, 1943, to James and Grace (Sneller) De Boer in Sioux Center, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School. After high school, he worked on the family farm and other jobs until he began his employment for Westway Trading Corporation as a salesman, a position he held for 42 years. He took great pride in his work and developed positive and lasting relationships with his customers who knew him to be honest and straightforward. Merle served in the Air National Guard and was medically discharged.
On January 29, 1972, Merle married the love of his life, Paula (Walston) in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They moved to Sioux Center in 1976 to raise their children. In 1994, his work took Merle and Paula to Claremore, Oklahoma, where they lived until his retirement, returning home to Sioux Center in 2017. In retirement, Merle enjoyed golfing, team roping, riding his horse and spending time with his family.
Merle is survived by his wife Paula and their four children, Melissa Iverson of Mitchell, SD; Jim of Ottertail, MN, Tricia (Dan) Mooney of Hermiston, OR; and Brian (Lisa) of Sioux Center. They were blessed with eight grandchildren, Austen Iverson, Braden De Boer, Brock De Boer, Gabrielle De Boer, Grace De Boer, Lily De Boer, Kennidy and Kambree Baker; brothers Darrell, Owen, Evan, and sister Janet.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents.
