Myna M. Nyhof

September 29, 1936 — June 19, 2021

     Myna Nyhof, age 84 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, IA.

     A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 24th at the Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with Rev. Cliff Hoekstra officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

     A prayer service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 23rd with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The Nyhof family prefer memorials be directed to Sioux Center Christian School, Western Christian High School or Unity Christian High School.

Myna M. Nyhof was born September 29, 1936, to Conrad and Grace (Van Maanen) Hulstein in Carmel, Iowa.  She attended a variety of country schools before graduating from Sioux Center High School in 1955. 

Myna was joined in marriage to Leonard Nyhof on March 16, 1956, at her parents’ Sioux Center home.  Myna worked at the Sioux Center News for a few years.  She later joined Leonard at Nyhof Turf & Trail Inc. from 1966 - 1980.  She then began working for Carrie Food Service at Dordt College, where she remained until her retirement in 2006.

Over the years, Myna volunteered with various organizations.  She worked with the Senior Companion program, the Rock Valley Rotary, Sioux Center Community Hospital Auxiliary, Sioux Center Christian School Guild, JFA, CRVRC-DRS and Majestic View Ministries. 

In her free time Myna enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, cardmaking, gardening and Swedish weaving.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. 

She is survived by her children, Leo Nyhof of Kalamazoo, MI, Lora (Jess) Elliott of Hot Springs, SD, Linda (Shon) Oertel of Orange City, IA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Minerva Vander Streek and Winerva Hulstein of George, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Nyhof; son, Lyle Nyhof; six sisters: Mina Hulstein, Carolyn De Kam, Emma Vogel, Etta Baker, Viola Langfeldt, Gertrude Vonk; two brothers, Albertus Hulstein, Gerrit (Fred) Hulstein.
