Norman De Boom, age 76 of Sioux Center, IA, died on Sunday January 23, 2022, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, IA.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. John Lee officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
The De Boom family prefer memorials be directed to Mission India or the Bethel Christian Reformed Church Education Fund.
Norman James De Boom was born on September 8, 1945, to Tony and Fannie (Altena) De Boom in Orange City, Iowa. He graduated from Ireton Christian grade school in 1959 and Western Christian Highschool in 1963. As a young man, Norman was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. He was joined in marriage to Sharon Lynn Vander Schoor on June 6, 1969.
He served in the Air National Guard with the 185th unit from 1965-1970 and was deployed to Korea with the US Airforce from 1968-1969. For many years, he farmed with his father as well as working for Vogel Paint, Rens Construction, K Products, Pella Windows and the City of Sioux Center.
Norman has been a longtime member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center and served as a Deacon and on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He liked to fish and to help his children with projects around their houses. He enjoyed working with wood and after retiring he made over 20,000 wooden toy cars for the organization, Toys for God’s Kids.
He especially enjoyed time with family and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandpa who was a devoted Christian man that loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon De Boom of Sioux Center; three sons and daughters-in-law: Brent (Marsha) De Boom of Sioux Center and their daughters: Paige and Addyson; Brian (Racquel) De Boom of Primghar and their daughter: Alex Spoo; Jason (Jessica) De Boom of Sioux Center and their children: Reece and Ella. He is also survived by two brothers: Con de Boom of Sioux Center and Stan (Wilma) De Boom of LeMars, IA; brother-in-law, Hank Hofland of Sanborn, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Linda Bouwman of Akron, IA and sister-in-law, Deb Van Bruggen of Hawarden as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents; sister, Juleen Hofland; parents-in-law, Harold and Arta Vander Schoor and sister-in-law, Adelyn de Boom.
