Paul G. Baker

Paul Baker, age 63, of George, Iowa, formerly of Sioux Center, Iowa died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Center in George.  

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 30th at 10:30 AM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, with Rev. David Smit officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM, on Saturday, December 30th at Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the Baker family prefers memorials directed to Hope Haven.

Paul Gilbert Baker was born June 18, 1960, and the beloved son of George and Gertrude (Tuininga) Baker of Orange City, Iowa.  As a young boy, he lived for a while in Glenwood, IA at the Glenwood Resource Center.   When he returned to northwest Iowa, he was a part of the Hope Haven community for over 25 years, living in different waiver homes in Sioux Center. 

Over his time with Hope Haven, Paul enjoyed working a variety of jobs including working on an egg farm and manufacturing a variety of products.   

When living in Sioux Center, Paul attended First Christian Reformed Church and participated in the Friendship Bible class and the bell choir.  

Paul found enjoyment in riding his bicycle, shooting hoops with his nephews and making crafts.  He was involved in the Special Olympics where he participated in bowling and softball throwing.   He was a wiz with an etch-a-sketch and could draw things on it without looking.  He had a joyful soul and loved to greet people with an encouraging “Hi!”

Paul is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Deb Baker of Orange City; nephews: Matthew and Ronda Baker of Sioux Falls, SD and their daughter: Teaira; Benjamin and Crystal Baker of Newkirk, IA and their children: Jessica, Aiden and Archie as well as numerous cousins and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude Baker.
