Peter Sietstra

Peter Sietstra, age 92, of Boyden, Iowa died Friday, October 22, 2021, at Sanford Health Care in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

    A visitation with the family present will be held from 5-7PM on Monday, October 25, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden, Iowa.

A family prayers service will be held at 9:30AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the United Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow the prayer service in Sherman Township Cemetery of Boyden, Iowa.

 A Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Hilla officiating. 

Peter Sietstra was born October 1, 1929, to John and Tena (Hoekstra) Sietstra in Sioux County near Sheldon, Iowa.  He was raised on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa and graduated from Boyden High School.

On January 6, 1949, Peter was joined in marriage to Lois M. Horn at the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Boyden where Peter worked at the Farmers COOP Creamery until 1955.  He then began working for the Farmers COOP Association.  In 1972, Peter became the manager of the Farmers COOP Oil Station.

He was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden where he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher.  Peter served as a volunteer on the Boyden Fire and Rescue for 16 years. He was one of Boyden’s original First Responders.

He enjoyed woodworking, various sports and a good game of Gin Rummy.  He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting and music events. 

He is survived by four children: Robert and Wanda Sietstra, Karen Sietstra, Loren and Carla Sietstra all of Boyden, and Carol and Scott Schuerman of Marion, IA; 8 grandchildren: Kimberly and Randy Godtland, Jeffrey and Cara Sietstra, Keith and Anita Sietstra, Rachel and Bryce Boogerd, Chris and Allison Sietstra, Mark and Alex Schuerman, Seth Schuerman and Jay and Tiffany Schuerman; 14 great-grandchildren: Anna, Thomas, Callie, Levi, Kase, Lydia, Savannah, Avery, Uriah, Will, Isaac, Cade, Mia, and Teegan,; sisters-in-law Joyce Sietstra of Pella, IA, Joyce Vander Haar of Mesa, AZ, Mildred Blankers of Sioux Falls, SD, Bonnie and Scott Koehler of Delta, CO and many nieces and nephews.

Proceeding Peter in death are his wife of 71 years, Lois; his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Edith Sietstra; brother, Martin Sietstra; sister and brother-in-law, Tillie and Gerlof Vander Baan, sister, Reka Sietstra; Lois’s parents Joe A and Gertrude Horn, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Virginia Horn; two brothers-in-law: Dwight Vander Haar and Dwight Blankers.
