Roberta “Bobbie” Colon age 97 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center with loving family by her side.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, Iowa with Reverend Jesse Henkle officiating. A graveside service will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 3:00 - 5:00PM with the family present at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sioux Center Hospital Foundation or the Sioux Center Public Library.
Roberta “Bobbie” Colon was born September 20, 1925, on a farm two miles northwest of Sioux Center, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Agnes (Muilenburg) Boeyink. Bobbie attended country school, graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1943 and received a nursing diploma in 1946 from the Methodist School of Nursing in Sioux City. While in training she was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corp. Following graduation, she worked as a surgical nurse at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. She lived in Sioux City and later moved to Sioux Center. She was united in marriage to Donald P. Colon on September 13, 1947, at Sioux City, IA. In June of 1951, she started working for the Sioux Center Hospital and continued there for the next 45 years, 27 years in administration and 18 years in medical records. She was a lifelong member of Central Reformed Church, Central Church Women’s morning circle, St. Lukes Alumni Association, Retired Methodist Nurses Club, and the Doornink/Brunsting Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching sports on TV. (Especially the Iowa Hawkeyes-Go Hawks)
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Jean) Colon of Sioux Falls, SD and Philip (Stephanie) Colon of Urbandale, IA; three grandchildren, Megan and husband Christopher Paone of Tampa, Florida; Adam of Sioux Falls and Maren Colon and fiancé Kyle Gallagher of Washington, DC; 2 great grandchildren, Amelia and Benjamin Paone; sister, Donna Kwikkel of Rock Rapids, IA and brother-in-law, Arnold Kwikkel along with many loved nieces and nephews.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Agnes, her husband, Donald in 1974, and brothers and sisters, Gary Boeyink; Gladys Bruinsma; Jacob Boeyink; Esther Bleeker, Leona (Lee) Russell and Joyce Moeller.
