Roger L. Riepma

June 19, 1948 — June 20, 2019

     Roger L. Riepma age 71 of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Sioux Center, Iowa died Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Orlando Regional Health Center in Orlando, FL.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2019 at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA with Rev. Dave Smit, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center, IA.

     Visitation will be Thursday, June 27th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Faith Christian Reformed Church.

  Lamppost Farm is a non-profit organization dedicated to using agriculture to reach and teach others through education, hospitality, stewardship, discipleship and quality food.

     Roger Leroy Riepma was born June 19, 1948, in Orange City, IA the son of Bernard and Annetta (Sankey) Riepma.  He received his education through the 12th grade at Western High School.  He attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.  He entered the United States Army in October of 1969 and served in the Vietnam war as a helicopter pilot until his honorable discharge in October of 1972.  On August 28, 1976, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Sharbatz in Miami Springs, FL.  In civilian life Roger worked as an Air Traffic Controller.  He worked at the FAA ATC Centre in Miami, FL and ATC Center in Dallas, TX.  He was a member of the New Life Presbyterian Church in Minneola, FL.  Roger served as a deacon while attending New Life.

     Among the things Roger enjoyed were golf, singing. driving bus and RV, playing cards and Querkle, time at the gun range and the beauty of Colorado, as well as countless handyman projects for his family, friends and his church.  But mostly, Roger adored his family.  His children and grandchildren will hold many fond memories of their time with their Dad and Grandpa.  Roger was called the “baby whisper” and got the chance to care for his 12 grandchildren.

     He is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Marilyn; daughters, Melanie (Steve) Montgomery of Columbiana, OH and Rebecca (Don) Lochner of Littleton, CO;  son, Nicholas (Victoria) Riepma of Palmdale, CA;  daughter-in-law of belated son, Philip Jon, (Holly) Riepma of Denver, CO;  12 grandchildren; mother, Annetta Mulder of Sioux Center, IA; siblings, Cheryl Prins, Duane Riepma, Randy Riepma, Ruth (Larry) Riemersma, Elaine (Chuck) Zomermaand, Mike (Kerrie) Riepma, Sally (Mike) Vanderweide, Debbie (Todd) Ter Haar, Cindy (Dale) Stupke and Tony Riepma.

     Roger was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Riepma; son, Philip Jon Riepma; and sister and brother-in-law, Sue (Martin) Moeller.
