Roger Dean Van Voorst was born to James and Greta (Van Der Weide) Van Voorst on April 12, 1952, in Sioux Center, Iowa. Roger was one of 11 children in the family. He grew up in Sioux County where he attended Sioux Center Community School and graduated from Boyden-Hull High School. Following graduation, his career included testing milk for four years. Roger found his career home for 42 years with Farmer's Coop Confinement/ Bar-K Feedlot. He enjoyed working with livestock including raising baby calves and hogs.
On August 13, 1980, Roger married Carol Vanden Brink. They settled on an acreage outside of Sioux Center and remained there until May, 2023. There is where Rog and Carol raised their three children, Greg, Stephanie, and Shelley. Roger enjoyed watching and cheering on his grandchildren, Leksy and Noah, as they played sports. He appreciated good competition of playing board games and cards throughout his lifetime. Everyone wanted to be on his team. Roger liked watching his Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Twins. He cherished all the many memories he made with his family, friends, and church family. Roger and Carol are members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon.
Upon Roger's retirement in December, 2018, Roger and Carol were able to enjoy warmer winters in Mesa, AZ. Unexpectedly Roger was diagnosed with cancer on November 28, 2022. He fearlessly fought this disease to the end knowing the Lord Jesus was by his side. Roger's fight ended August 29, 2023, at the age of 71. He was surrounded by family as he was called to his heavenly home.
Roger is survived by his wife, Carol, who has been by his side for the last 43 years; son, Greg (Jamie) and their children: Leksy and Noah of Sioux Falls, SD; and two daughters: Stephanie Van Voorst of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Shelley Van Voorst of Sioux Center. His family will always cherish his many memories and his gift of selflessness.
