Ruth E. Grom, age 98 of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Spicer, MN passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center, IA. Public visitation will be Tuesday, January 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Burial will be at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, January 12th at the Spicer City Cemetery in Spicer, MN. Ruth E. Grom was born March 20, 1923 in Scotch Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Ella (Lumas) Clark. She was raised in Scotch Grove and graduated from high school. She continued her education at Coe College where she earned her teaching degree. She started teaching at Colesburg, IA and there she met her husband to be. She was united in marriage to Donald Grom on June 5, 1945, in Scotch Grove. She continued to teach at Center Junction in the Maquoketa School District. Several years later the couple moved to the family farm near Scotch Grove, where they farmed for many years. In 1971 they moved to Alden, IA and she worked as a librarian for the City of Alden. In 1976 they moved to Spicer, MN to a lake home on Green Lake. There she worked parttime the Spicer Library. She was a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer, active with several church activities. She enjoyed reading, watching the Hallmark Channel, and was an avid Twin and Vikings fan. She enjoyed time spent with Don, fishing on Green Lake. In 1983 Ruth’s husband of 45 years died unexpectedly. She remained living in Spicer and stayed active with her church and community. She moved to Crown Pointe Assisted Living in 2015, and recently to Crown Pointe Care Center. She is survived by her son, Philip (Diane) Grom of Alvord, IA; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hyde of Guttenberg, IA; and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Ella Clark; husband, Donald Grom; two sons, Howard and Gary Grom; one sister, Alice Nylor; and two grandchildren, Sonya and Jerimiah Grom.
