Sharon F. Vander Vliet was born on May 19, 1945, to Henry and Gertrude (DeBoer) Vander Vliet in Sioux Center, IA. She was raised in Carmel, IA, attended a one room country school through eighth grade, and graduated from Sioux Center High School. Sharon was married to the love of her life Norman Snieder on October 24, 1962, at Carmel Reformed Church. This union lasted nearly 60 years and he was the center of her world. They were blessed with two sons, Kevin & Kelly. Sharon lived her life surrounded by boys, raising her sons, and later blessed with three grandsons, whom all adored her. Sharon was an integral part of the family business, Snieder Insurance, where she served as her husband Norm’s “right hand woman” offering advice, ideas, and her devoted support. She loved to cook and took pride in offering meals to her loved ones. Family would flock to her home knowing they would get an incredible meal and the hospitality that would naturally come along with that meal. Okoboji was her favorite place to be, where she would spend summers entertaining family and friends. Sharon was an amazing giver throughout her life. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and recently brought more than thirty to share with those in need of the love and warmth they offered. If she was aware of anyone needing help, she quietly supported them and more importantly prayed for them and their individual needs. In the end, to everyone’s surprise Sharon offered up one more incredibly generous gift; the gift of life as she was an organ and tissue donor. Her inherent generosity, gifts, and love will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially those closest to her.

Sharon is survived by her son Kevin (Janie) Snieder of Sioux City, and sons Joshua of Sioux Center, Jonah and Ethan of Sioux City; son Kelly (Carrie) Snieder of Sioux Center; sister Marlene Punt of Sioux Center; brother Harold (Lorna) Vander Vliet of Carmel; sisters-in-law Helen Klomp of Rock Valley, Lois Snieder of Orange City and Harriet Snieder of Sioux Center; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norm, parents-in-law Henry & Wilhelmina Snieder, brothers-in-law Ron Voorderman, Adam Punt, Warren and Burton Snieder, and Marvin Klomp.

The family wishes memorials to be designated to Sioux Center Christian School and Faith CRC Mission and Outreach.
