Vera Leona Brouwer

Vera Brouwer, age 101, formerly of Maurice, IA died Friday, February 23, 2024, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA.  

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the Maurice First Reformed Church in Maurice, IA, with Reverend Jeremy Van Genderen officiating.

The burial will follow in the Sherman Township Cemetery, rural Maurice, IA.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Maurice First Reformed Church.

Vera Leona Brouwer was born on April 15, 1922, in Maurice, IA, the daughter of Abe and Winnie (Van Olst) Levering.  She grew up in Maurice and later graduated from Maurice High School.

On February 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to John Brouwer at the Maurice First Reformed Church in Maurice, IA.  To this union four children were born, Betty, Glen, Ruth, and Marvin.  The couple made their home in Maurice most all their life but for a year they lived in Bellflower, CA.  Vera worked in the printing department at K-Products from 1967 until retiring in 1983.

Vera enjoyed crocheting, knitting, tatting, cooking, and gardening.  She was a wonderful seamstress and made her family’s clothing.

Vera is survived by two daughters, Betty (Garret) Visser of Sioux Center, IA, and Ruth Flemming of Vancouver, WA; two daughters-in-law, Shari Brouwer of Grovetown, GA, and Doris Brouwer of Sioux Center, IA; four grandchildren, Anitra (Brian) King, Chrissy (Caleb) Wilkerson, Tyler (Cindi) Brouwer, and Erin Flemming; four great-grandchildren, Reece, Kadence, and Mabel Brouwer, and Leo Wilkerson; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe, and Winnie Levering; husband, John Brouwer; two sons, Glen, and Marv Brouwer; granddaughter, Angie Brouwer; one brother, Harold (Mariele) Levering; and in-laws, Gert (John) Vander Ziel, Sue (Frank) Schaap, Jeanette (Bill) Kreun, Rich (Martha) Brouwer, Pete Brouwer, and Louis (Gertrude) Brouwer.
