Wilfred Cleveringa co-founder of Extra Touch Tours arrived at his final destination November 23, 2019. He left all his baggage behind. It's a trip he's been planning his entire life. He was greeted by Jesus and the angels are showing him around right now. It's just like Wilfred to go out ahead and scout things out so he can be there to greet us. He's there now so he can welcome us and give us a personal tour.

In the end, his heart just could not contain the love and joy he had. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face, and a happy disposition.

He was born November 12, 1938 in Sioux Center to William and Bertha (Sneller) Cleveringa. By his own admission he liked to have fun and he may have been a bit mischievous.

On November 25, 1960 he married Harriet Landhuis. By all accounts his trip to heaven was the first time he left Harriet’s side in fifty-nine years. He loved, cherished, and protected her. He was anxious for his final journey and not worried about the details. He had a special reservation. His final days and last energies were focused on making sure Harriet would be well taken care of.

Wilfred & Harriet had four daughters, Rhonda, Sue, Michelle, and Kristi. Faith and family were the center of his universe and he was a great example to us all. In his last hours, all received his hugs, words of encouragement, appreciation, and love.

He had several vocations and felt blessed in every one of them. His early career included several agri-businesses. He worked many years as a postal worker and post-master. He was also a farmer and proud of his Century Farm. He spent the last 25 years leading Extra Touch Tours with Harriet where they made innumerable friends.

He served The First Reformed Church as a deacon, elder, and a youth sponsor. In particular, he most loved being involved in youth group mission trips. He was a mentor to several boys directly and through the Pals program. It was just his way of welcoming others into the big circle of his family.

In recent years his favorite activity was anything that involved his 14 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He would have loved to be here to welcome his 3rd great grandchild in a few weeks.

He lived a blessed life and was happy in it. He planned well for his trip to eternity and was looking forward to it. It’s difficult to say goodbye, but he left this world, and all of us much better. Thank You Wilfred. God bless you until we meet again.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Harriet, daughters Rhonda (Todd) Moss, Sioux City, IA Sue Cleveringa, Marshalltown, IA, Michelle (William) Waring, Sioux Center, IA and Kristi (Korey) Huss, Sioux Center, IA. Grandchildren Corey (Haley) Moss, Micah (Sarah) Moss, Madison (Renee) Moss, Colton (Ellie) Waring, Zane (Jenna) Waring, Talon, Meysa & Creed Waring, Alexandra (Tyler) Pennings, Cambree, Victoria, Shaylin, McKenna & Joselyn Huss. Great-grandchildren Bode and Harper Moss.

He is also survived by sister, Beth (Bruce) Van Wyk of Grand Junction, CO.

Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertha Cleveringa; parents-in-law, John and Elsie Landhuis; brother and sister-in-law, Willis and Eleanor Kleinwolterink.
