Carolin Vermeer, age 88, of Pipestone, Minnesota, formerly of Sioux Center, died Friday, September 22, 2023, at Good Samarian Nursing Home in Pipestone.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 am, Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with Pastor Steve Stahl officiating.
Visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the time of the service.
The family prefers memorials directed to: Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center or the Sioux Center Public Library.
Carolin Joan Vermeer was born December 11, 1934, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Sydney and Frances (Huettl) Missall. At the age of 11, her family moved to Richmond, California, where her father was employed at the shipyards during World War II. After the war, their family moved to northern California and then to Modesto, California, where she graduated from high school in 1952. She went on to Modesto Junior College for two years and earned her teaching degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, in 1956. She returned to Modesto to teach 8th grade for three years before moving to the Oakland, California area where she taught middle school for two years. While teaching in Oakland, she met her future husband and made plans to move back to Iowa, where she taught fifth grade in Sioux Center for one year.
On October 13, 1962, Carolin was united in marriage to Dr. Robert Vermeer, at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. To their union, were born two sons, Douglas and Scott.
Carolin was a member of the Central Reformed Church where she was very active in ladies groups and led a neighborhood Bible study. She enjoyed raising their sons, being a homemaker, reading, playing piano, sewing, and baking. Carolin will be remembered for her sweet and kind spirit.
In 2014, she moved to Crown Pointe Assisted Living. In 2017, Carolin moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Pipestone, Minnesota, where she passed away on September 22, 2023.
Those left to cherish her memory are: son, Douglas (wife, Valerie) of Pipestone, MN, and their three children, Katie (Jason) Bobbin of Sioux Falls, SD, Angie (Evan) Protexter of Madison, WI, and Jacob Vermeer of Iowa City, IA; son, Scott (wife, Debbie) from Boise, ID, and their three children, Nathan Vermeer of Highlands Ranch, CO, Matthew Vermeer of Boise, ID, and Alyssa Vermeer of Boise, ID; three great grandchildren, Keira and Kollyns Bobbin, and Ella Protexter; sister, Dorothy Swan of Cupertino, CA; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2016; brother, Daryl Missall; and sister, Delores Black.
