     Kay Disch, age 86 of Sioux Center, IA died on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Independence Village in Ankeny, IA.

     A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, Iowa with Pastor Bryan Anderson officiating.

     A family prayer service will take place at 9:30 AM, Saturday November 26th at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with burial to follow the prayer service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

     Visitation will take place Friday, November 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

    Kay Marlene Disch was born June 29, 1936, the second of seven children to Hoyt and Martha (Gardner) Woody in Newton, Iowa. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated valedictorian from Monroe High School in 1954. She earned her teaching license in 1956 from State Teacher’s College, now the University of Northern Iowa. In the fall of 1958, she enrolled at Omaha Baptist Bible Institute, now Faith Baptist Bible College. It was there she met Walter Disch. They were married June 23, 1961, in Newton, IA.

     She was a pastor’s wife and homemaker for the early years of their marriage in Omaha, Nebraska, Aberdeen, South Dakota, Corwith, Iowa, and Sioux Center, Iowa. In 1976, she started substitute teaching at Kinsey Elementary in Sioux Center. In 1983, she enrolled at Dordt College to complete her four-year teaching degree. That same year she started working part time for the Sioux Center News which turned into a full-time job for 31 years.

     In 2015, Walt died suddenly after 58 years of marriage. In 2017, she started working as a paraprofessional in the middle and high school special education department and continued until the spring of 2020.

     She used her sewing talents for clothes, doll clothes, quilts, and a lot of mending and alterations. She even was able to use her sewing talents with several of the students helping them with sewing projects. She faithfully taught junior/senior high youth Sunday School for 40+ years.

     She will be dearly missed by her four children: Kathleen (Jerry) Toschlog of Richmond, IN, Wayne Disch of Maurice, IA, Kristi (John) Donaker of George, IA, and Kimberly (Erick) Hunt of Waukee, IA, 9 grandchildren which were “one of the greatest blessings of my life”: Kara (Nathan) Brooking, Nathan (Cheyanne) Gunder, John, Emily, and Joel Donaker, Brian, Brittany, Brenna, and Brandon Hunt, 6 great grandchildren: Jordan, Marissa, and Mackenzie Neikirk, Kinsley and Charlotte Brooking, and Brandyn Gunder; siblings: Jerry (Linda) Woody of Reasnor, IA, Janet Short of Osceola, IA, Raymond Woody of Fairfield, IA, and Irma Woody of Newton, IA, sister-in-law Joanie Woody of Webster, NY, and many nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her husband Walt, parents Hoyt and Martha, two brothers William and Joseph Woody, son-in-law James Gunder, granddaughter Sarah Neikirk, sisters-in-law Coralee Woody and Laurie Woody, and brother-in-law Bill Short.
