Richard Rens

   Richard Rens age 84 of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center.

     A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Private family burial will take place prior to the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.  The memorial service can be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/bethelsc 

     Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 -7:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Memorial Funeral Home.  

     Masks and social distancing is requested.

Memorials can be directed to New Life Treatment Center or Charity of your choice.

    Richard Rens Jr. was born January 3, 1937 in Hull, IA to Richard and Helen (Wassink) Rens.  He was raised on various farm places in northwest Iowa attending many different country schools. Rich was joined in marriage to Delores Broek on December 3, 1957.

     Rich was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was passionate about people.  On of his biggest loves was going to work projects through Justice For All in Rock Valley and The Majestic View Ministry in Montana. 

     Rich and Lori started and ran Rens Construction alongside each other for over 30 years.  After selling his business at the age of 55, dad continued to work hard but enjoyed ‘not being the boss’.  You could often find him playing cards, pool, golfing, and Heartland Strategy.  Rich and Lori were pretty hard to beat.  He always had a grin on his face and a laugh.  Lori passed away on June 9, 2012.   Rich married Janet Rens in May of 2014.

     He is survived by his wife, Janet Rens of Sioux Center, IA; four children, Jeff and LeAnn Rens of Springfield, MO and their daughters, Ginny and Don Scott (Emerson, Hana) all of Ely, IA, Kendra and Drew Rodiger (Ethan, Caden, Dawson and Olivia ) all of Morrisville, MO, Erica and Rainer Gall  (Jefferson) of St. Louis, MO; Lynn and Dennis Koele of Rock Valley, IA and their children, Dustin and Rikka Koele (Cadence, Camdyn and Casey) of Alton, IA, Ashley and Mitch Van Engen (Tessa and Bryson) of Doon, IA, Jordan Koele and his fiancé Shannon Schaap of Rock Valley, IA; Jan and Kevin Te Slaa of Sioux Center, IA and their children Jessica Tubergen (Tori Sneller) of Valley Springs, SD, Morgan and Tim Lange (Carlee, Chase and Colten) of Doon, IA, Danielle Tubergen and fiancé Matt Schlitter of Hastings, NE; Dr. Scott and Karen Rens of Sioux Center, IA and their children, Emily and Kyle Hull of Omaha, NE, Alex Rens and Sam Rens of Sioux Center, IA; sister-in-law, Joan Rens of Sioux Center, IA; in-laws, Jo and Paul Dekker of Maurice, IA, Arlene and Stan Van Otterloo of Hospers, IA, Linda and Will Van Engen of Hudson, SD, Marianne and Jim Sjaarda of Sioux Center, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

     Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Helen Rens; wife of 54 years, Lori Rens; two infant sons, Roger and Ronald; sister, Hattie and Gerrit Vander Plaats; brother, William Rens.
